Popularity contest

Young adults mind is like a clay. It can mold easily to any shape. This is important for young adults to keep themselves busy and happy with motivated mindset.

“We know from social-comparison research and social psychology that a lot of people think they’re doing better than others, so we thought maybe students think that they have a lot of friends and their peers don’t”.

“Because when we’re out in public, we look out into our social environment and we see people happy and laughing, and we don’t see when people are alone, upset in their bedroom,” she said. “When you’re new to a social network, you feel uncertain, you’re not sure about your role in that social network, you’re not sure about other people’s roles, so you might be more willing or more likely to anchor your judgments of yourself and others based on what you can observe.”

People with more anxiety, always gain more stress. They always want to become more popular. They don’t need to have popularity. They need to have few good friends.

Outsmarting Human Minds

Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Banaji and research fellow Olivia Kang, developed Outsmarting Human Minds as a way to deliver up-to-date thinking about hidden biases in an engaging way.

Banaji said, “The behavioral sciences give us insights into what gets in the way of reaching out professional goals, of being true to our own deepest values”.  “The science is not new, but its message is still one most people have difficulty grasping and  understanding.”

Kang said, “Everyone wants to know what’s happening in their minds, and they want to know what they can do to make better decisions”. “The science is out there; the challenge is getting it to the public in a way that captures their interest.”

“We want to deliver this information to people in a way that doesn’t make them feel that they’re a bad person if they have these biases. The fact is, we all do. This is about acknowledging that hidden biases are a product of how we’re wired and the culture we live in. And then agreeing that we want to do something about it — that we can use this knowledge to improve the decisions we make in life and at work.”

Mars on Earth, Bryce Canyon

Mars on Earth, Bryce Canyon

I’ve seen pictures of Bryce Canyon in Utah but nothing prepared me for what I was about to see. After parking the car along the road, we prepared our backpacks with water and other essentials, and of course a camera, and hiked to the rim of the canyon with a quicker pace than usual. We […]
